Although it is a small market, there are actually quite a few manufacturers of folding bicycles, with a variety of designs. The first thing you need to decide when choosing a folding bicycle is how compact you want it to be when folded. Some bikes have full size wheels, so they ride well, but do not fold up as small as other models. Other bikes have small wheels (typically 16" or 20"), which means they don't ride quite as well as a standard bike. Folding bikes are always slightly heavier than non-folding bicycles, due to the weight of the folding mechanisms. Montague estimates that their bikes weigh an extra half pound.

We deal with 3 manufacturers who sell folding bicycles:

Montague We like the Montague folding bicycles best. They use full-size wheels & standard components, and their bikes pivot around the seat post which gives them great strength. They take about 30 seconds to fold (with a little practice) to an approximate 36" x 30" x 12" package, without tools.
Dahon Dahon makes some folding bikes which use smaller wheels and fold up to a more compact size. Their Piccolo model uses 16" wheels & folds to a 30" x 20" x 11" size.
Worksman Cycles Worksman makes cruiser style folding bikes with coaster brakes with 1, 3 or 7 speeds. They also make a folding tandem & a folding adult tricycle.
