We also have Trails Illustrated maps of Hoosier National Forest. They retail for $9.95 and are excellent for backpacking & other outdoor activities besides mountain biking. The Hoosier National Forest in Indiana covers approximately 200,000 acres. It is broken into several sections, the southernmost bounding the Ohio River. The forest also includes the 12,945 acres of Charles C. Deam Wilderness, designated a wilderness area by Congress in 1982. Now being returned to nature, this area was settled in the early 1800's & was once home to over 80 families. Old cemeteries & roadbeds still remain.
The map features 11 separate topographic maps (1:30,000 scale)
covering the 220 miles of hiking, mountain biking, &
& horse trails in the forest.
Trails vary in length from 1 mile to 36 miles in length.
A chart with trail names, descriptions, & mileage
helps visitors choose their route.
Several recreation areas provide access to camping, fishing, & boating.
The Celina/Indian Lake Recreation Area includes the scenic
Two Lakes Loop Trail, with views of both lakes.
Campers at Saddle Lake Campground can enjoy swimming,
& the Tipsaw Lake Recreation Area is a popular fishing spot.
Two horse camps, Hickory Ridge Horse Camp & German Ridge Horse Camp
provide lengthy trails for riders.
